Sleigh Daybeds
Sleigh Daybeds Add That Elegant Touch
Move Over Santa ... Elegance Is Taking The Reins
Today the day bed has become probably one of the most versatile pieces of furniture that you can purchase for your home.
Certainly at a time when we all know that both space and being able to utilize it is at a premium, having a piece of furniture which changes from a sofa into a bed may be the right item for the home.
Daybeds come in a variety of different materials and can be either intricate or modern. However, if you are looking for something which will add a touch of elegance to your home, then you would do well to consider purchasing one the many sleigh daybeds that are available.
Their Curly Origin
A sleigh daybed is one where both the headboard and footboard have an outward curl at the top of each board. This causes them to look somewhat like a sleigh which is where the name comes from.
Although you may find that sleigh daybeds are made from a variety of materials, more often than not they are of wood. The more expensive versions will even feature hand-carved curls on them. You will also notice with any sleigh daybed that the footboard is always shorter than the headboard.
While you may be thinking that the design of such beds originally came from one of the Scandinavian countries, the design for sleigh daybeds actually originated in France.
To Curl Or Not To Curl
In the early days, the curls on the headboard and footboards would either curl inwards or outwards. It is only in more recent times that sleigh daybeds have been made with the curl going outwards as this is considered to be more comfortable.
You might even find that there are some versions which have no curl at all on the headboard and only the footboard will come with a curl.
Taking Up Space
If you are considering purchasing one of the many sleigh daybeds that are now available, you will need to think about the space where it will go. Keep in mind that additional space will be needed for the head and footboards and also remember that the bed will not be set flush against a wall like most daybeds.
And if space is at a premium in your home, then why not choose one of the sleigh daybeds which comes with a plain headboard but has a curled footboard only. They are just as elegant and beautiful in their own way.
Not Just For The Guest Room
In fact, due to their elegance, many people do not tuck these beauties away in a bedroom but rather put them in their formal living rooms to be used mainly as sofas and occasionally as beds.
To create the desired effect, simply choose one of the daybed ensembles that is more fancy and is made of a more elegant kind of material. The quality of the comforter will only add to the beauty of the wood headboard and footboard.
